With a comedic wink and you-have-to-have-been-there-to-appreciate-it nod to resolutely northern nostalgia, one of the UK’s most accomplished contemporary urban landscape artists, David Smith announces his illustrative return to his favoured compositional scene, with the much-anticipated launch of his brand new Spring 2018 collection of originals. And ranked high up among the 4-piece portfolio the best-selling Smith is treating us to here and now, is this 16” x 16” study entitled ‘Wash Day’. And as any proud northerner will tell you, wash day is traditionally Monday and Saturday; but that might have been subject to change since I grew up. And on a more graphic note, I didn’t spend my own formative years surrounded by street end ads for ‘Bile Beans’ nor ‘Capstan’s’ brand of lung-friendly products! This is also the bit where along with artistic license, Smith is looking for us to add a timely LOL. So consider it done.
