There are many ways to communicate Caroline Shotton’s cow manifesto to a broader demographic, which is probably why the humourist artist has turned to the three-dimensions afforded to her by the invention of glass paperweights, in a temporary departure from her more canvas-friendly 2-D back catalogue of work.
Manufactured by Caithness Glass, this large and heavy paperweight is a sturdy 5cm think for the most part, whilst one of Shotton’s signature bovine images has been sand-blasted onto the rear of the glass construct.
Used as either a stand-alone sculpture or a redoubtable paperweight, this is a rare collector’s piece, bearing witness to a couple of her bemused-looking cows staring right back at us from a typically black and white marked background.
