Sat, equally as provocatively as she is in equal pictorial measure, coy, this timeless photographic study of the iconic Marilyn Monroe has just been released onto the contemporary’s art market by long-time collector and avid compiler of Monroe’s most famous images taken down the years, Edward Weston. Depicting a perceivably at ease Hollywood starlet towards the end of her movie career, ‘Marilyn’ is staring intently down the photographer’s lens, hands clasped to her chest and knees tucked under her chest.
‘Warming Up, Santa Monica Beach, 1962’ is one of Weston’s most memorable previously archived graphic snapshots, captured in the year in which she was subjected to her very last photo-shoot. As part of Weston’s ‘Marilyn’ themed portfolio released in Spring 2014 – and collating famous photographic turns from the revered likes of Willinger, De Dienes, Aoki and Barris to name but a few – this seismically emotive, limited edition study is presented as a giclee on paper piece on this occasion
