Light bulbs, cigarette lighters, guns, razor blades. You name it and Nic Joly has probably incorporated it as a highly improbable prop in the amazing contemporary sculpture artist’s art imitates life compositions; which continue to make genre headlines for all the right reasons. Like this one for example, entitled ‘Bad Idea?’ and just released as part of Joly’s brand new Spring 2014 collection.
Currently available to pre-order (prior to March 2014 general release) Joly’s all-new ‘Bad Idea?’ study is promoted in two forms; the 2D giclee on paper presentation and the original three-dimensional piece on which it’s based. The former is limited to just 95 editions on launch, whilst the latter comprises a mere 90 examples. In terms of the latter, this came into existence after the original figures were subjected to the lost wax process; resulting in said figures being cast in bronze and re-painted.
