It may represent a pleasing one-third of the artist’s very latest Spring 2016 collection, yet there’s no mistaking that ‘Autumn Romance’ as the title implies, is illustratively set in an altogether different season. Graphically testified to by the glorious golden leaves which have already turned on the trees pictured in the widely regarded contemporary landscape and figurative art practitioner’s brand new compositional reveal witnessed hereabouts.
As is the graphical way of the award-winning Jeff Rowland, this giclee on canvas limited edition sees key elements put in another visually arresting appearance, as he strives not to fix something overtly pictorial which is far from being broken in any way, shape or form. So we observe typical Rowland-esque props such as the loving couple set in the middle distance, an umbrella held aloft to avert the omnipresence of rain and the fading seasonal light which affords the piece a sombre if not glowing filter in the days long before the advent of an Instagram generation. Restricted to a mere 150 artist-signed copies from launch, we’d implore those interested to make their move sooner rather than later.
