In terms of identifying a catalyst in his career when the future suddenly became a lot clearer for (then) budding contemporary landscape artist, Philip Gray then it’s probably when – in the capacity of Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, he sailed into New York as part of the 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial celebrations. It was whilst on shore leave here that Gray was afforded the golden opportunity to exhibit a selection of his originals artworks on the ship at an official reception. The subsequent positive response from a mixed audience of fellow naval officers, Irish American dignitaries and other state officials proved the turning point, and ultimately paved the way for what the best-selling Gray has compositionally produced ever since in his professional guise. ‘Tranquil Moment I’ pictorially represents Gray’s very latest, Summer 2016 giclee on board only landscape, which pictures a stunning coastal vista which instantly transports the viewer to an altogether calmer place in their minds and hearts.
