Emma Grzonkowski’s entire new Spring 2016 mini-series is based on dreams which the celebrated contemporary figurative artist has experienced at some time in recent history. The resultant giclee-presented pieces are a natural visual joy to behold in a continuing compositional nod to that pictorially which has gone before; despite the hugely popular Grzonkowski only being plying her creative trade for a limited number of years to date.
‘Transcendence’ is one-third of the new collection which Grzonkowski describes as having been evolved from a recurrent nightmare scenario of being pursued through a dark forest. Having said that the night in question (and prior to the initial conceptualizing of this particular giclee mounted study) the forest remained familiar dream territory, yet Grzonkowski recalls not being chased and no longer fearful. Indeed, the vision turned into what she refers to as an ‘enchanting’ example, abound by peace and surrounded by the physicality of butterflies (as recreated in this gorgeous hand-signed limited edition); which saw said butterflies flying towards a bright light.
