According to art historians Vincent van Gogh created some of his most iconic work whilst a patient in an asylum, including ‘Starry Night.’ Although he considered it to be a complete failure and – like other compositions he toiled away on while there – apparently meant nothing to him. Thankfully it meant a great deal to the rest of the world and subsequent generations confronted with its pictorial majesty since, one of those being the much-talked about contemporary landscape art practitioner plying his trade today, namely John Myatt. You may recall he was the artist who in 1986 placed a classified ad in Private Eye magazine which read, '19th and 20th century fakes for £200'; and so was born a perfectly legitimate business venture. Only it didn’t stay legit once people mistakenly believed some to be the real McCoy; a myth that Myatt himself than, illegally perpetuated. A prison sentence and a reformation of character later, and summer 2017 sees Myatt back with his very latest – and legally above board – new collection based on van Gogh’s works; led by this stunning hand-signed and embellished canvas limited edition entitled, ‘The Church at Auvers in the Style of Vincent van Gogh.’
