The undisputed Lady Gaga of the contemporary figurative art world here in 2017, pop surrealist (and then some), Xue Wang returns to her genre fray this autumn with more of the same. That’s the same screwball graphic episodes – typically of a giclee on canvas limited edition bent – which has helped her carve an enviable reputation for ensuring the viewer/buyer journey’s ever deeper into their mind’s eye. And occasionally their dark, tortured soul for good measure. Visually capitalising on all the (previous) good work in her hitherto darkly comic, fairy tale-themed pictorials, the exciting Wang is keen to stress how she simply adores to mix ‘light-headed sauciness with the macabre’; together with a healthy twist of a bottle labelled, sardonic. On which note, behold this hand-signed Beauty and the Beast-influenced board with slip iteration, entitled ‘The Head of the Table’; which serves to further convey Wang’s love of jellified effects and which she describes as being a new painting technique for her. Whatever and whenever, just make sure you box-tick this 24” x 17” piece if you’re at least as curious/convinced as us!
