The winds of change are certainly more than merely in the air for hitherto Canada-residing contemporary floral and landscape fine artist extraordinaire, Danielle O’Connor Akiyama, and her husband of late. Having acquired an old Georgian property located on the west coast of Ireland, the multi-talented O’Connor Akiyama is now fully embracing the wild, almost untamed Atlantic coast (and adjoining unearthly beautiful hills in close proximity) discovered on her new doorstep as a furtive means of compositional inspiration. Not that the widely-regarded fine art exponent has ever required such influences previously, as she’s successfully plotted her own visual coordinates and taken inspiration from east to west. Compass points of the globe, to clarify, not just Ireland or Canada before that, we hasten to add. ‘Wind’ represents one part of O’Connor Akiyama’s latest Spring 2018 collection of hand-embellished and glossed boxed canvases, and this 195-run only limited edition piece comes complete with the artist’s moniker emblazoned on the surface area for added kudos.
