Music has often influenced the graphic prevalence of stripes, and vice versa. Think The White Stripes, for example. And now, from t’other perspective, acclaimed contemporary fine art exponent, Alex Echo; who has been inspired by the Ramones’ Joey Ramone, believe it or not. According to legend (or rather, Alex Echo himself), the lead singer of the iconic American punk outfit once told Echo that being at the beach – and immersed in nature – was akin to ‘the Church of the Blue Sky’. Which is a lovely visual concept, whichever way you choose to look at things. And hence the title of the best-selling Echo’s brand new Spring 2018 limited edition release, entitled ‘Cathedral of Sea and Sky I’. Talking on the very subject of stripes, Echo says; “Stripes are an iconic, graphic machine in our consciousness and in the world of art. The stripe is natural and automatic: it appeals to us all at some instinctual level.” This incredibly impactful hand-embellished and signed boxed canvas iteration by the critically acclaimed Echo can now be ordered via ourselves, and in its 38” x 38” guise would inject dramatic life into any given urban living space.
