Mackenzie started painting his now famous 'square sheep' more that thirty years ago, commenting on this "joyous scene of togetherness" he said: "Over the years I find myself revisiting the sheep with a sense of fondness and familiarity; it is always a good day when I put pastel to paper and find myself lost in memories with just a touch of nostalgia".
